Cyborg-Question March 3, 2009

The first of the readings was from the Gendered Cyborg called “Manifesto for Cyborgs.” I remember reading this particular text last semester and the jargon is still difficult to get through. In order to argue Haraway’s point of view, you have to first choose how you define a cyborg. Believing that I am a cyborg while typing this response would mean that I agree with Haraway in her optimistic advantages of what the cyborg is capable of and how we can define them as ourselves and transcend society’s dualisms. On the other hand, this computer is not a physical extension of my fingers, so why should I have to label myself as this “Other,” this myth?
